In today’s world, we are constantly bombarded with information. It is very hard to keep up with the latest happenings and trends of your favorite celebrities, as well as those in any field that interests you. In this article, I will tell you how to start blogging for a living so that you can get paid for sharing your opinion on all things from fashion to food reviews.
The first step is registering a domain name and hosting service, then coming up with content ideas such as advice columns or product/service reviews. Finally, find ways to draw traffic to your site by using social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter or other forms of advertising channels like Google Adwords.
The benefits of starting a blog are endless- not only do you get to express your opinion on many different things, but you also make some pretty good money in the process. I would recommend finding a niche of topics that interest you or about which you feel very knowledgeable and passionate- this is key in making a successful blog.
The next step will be deciding whether you want to do this as a hobby or start a blog and make money from it. If you want to start blogging for fun, there is nothing wrong with that- many people have had success sharing their opinions online as a hobby. However, if you are going to start blogging in order to get paid, it may be best to focus on the more lucrative areas like product/service reviews or affiliate marketing.
If you choose to go the product/service review route, this will require some basic research on which company is willing to pay you in exchange for reviewing their services or products with unbiased reviews. You can also get paid via your affiliate link by being part of a multi-level marketing company like MonaVie or Plexus Slim. However, these reviews must be done honestly.
There are a variety of social media platforms you can use to promote your blog- try using Twitter and Facebook but also consider blogging about local events in order to get people interested in what’s going on where they live or work. If there is an event that happens that affects the subject of your blog, you can draw traffic to your site by promoting it on social media. You can also use Google Adwords or other types of internet advertisements to draw traffic to your website. Be sure that every page has a link back to the home page and make sure you have an email address included so people know how to contact you with any questions.
There are many ways to make some income from a blog- the key is coming up with an idea that you are passionate about and something that will attract other people’s attention.
My recommended blogging course
My #1 recommended blogging course, that I bought myself, is Create And Go.
The Launch Your Blog course is a program that teaches you how to get started with blogging. With the help of Alex and Lauren, they give you all the tools needed to succeed in this field. You will not only learn about blog posts but also marketing strategies for your content as well!
Lauren and Alex, the founders of Create and Go, started on a blog called Avocadu. They had learned from past mistakes with other blogs before this one took off like wildfire. Within less than 9 months they were able to turn their health-focused site into a passive income machine that generated over $20k per month in blogging revenue!
The benefits of starting a blog
One of the benefits of starting a blog is that you’re able to see the growth in traffic to your site over time. You can also see how many people are clicking on different posts and how they’re interacting with your content. Building up an email list is essential for promoting your content and reaching out to your readers. Additionally, you’ll grow followers as you post more content on your blog, which will help draw more visitors.
To make the most of your blog, focus on writing great content for your readers. As you write, remember that they’re coming to your blog because they want to learn about a certain topic. It’s your job to provide them with valuable information and help them solve their problem, not just show off how big of an expert you are.
When you write helpful content for your readers, they’ll appreciate it and come back to read more. People will also share your blog posts and recommend them to others on social media, which will boost the visibility of your site and bring more people in. You’ll also find that building an email list helps you keep in touch with people who have shown interest in your blog.
Another way that you can use your blog is to build authority in your industry. Most of the people who visit your website will look at your About page and see whether or not you’re credible as an expert in the field. When they see that you have a lot of experience and credentials, they’ll be more likely to take your advice.
Once you’ve been writing for a while, it’s a good idea to start promoting your posts on social media. You can do this by sharing them with your audience directly through Facebook or Twitter, as well as powerful social networks like LinkedIn and Google+. As long as you connect with people in the right places and provide value, you’ll be able to reach a new audience.
Once your blog starts getting traffic, it’s up to you how you want to use it. If you choose to monetize your blog and make money from it, you can start using services like Google AdSense to display relevant ads on your site that will keep coming back and generating more income.
Steps to starting your own blog
1. Choose a domain and web host.
The easy thing to do is use WordPress as the website platform, but there are other options like Drupal and Joomla. You will also need hosting for your blog which you can get from any host that allows FTP access (like Hostgator).
2. Install WordPress on your website.
There are many tutorials on how to install WordPress with FTP available online, but it is also recommended that you learn how to use FTP and do it manually as you will likely need that knowledge in the future.
3. Create a community of contributors for your blog.
This can be done by starting a forum or simply inviting people to submit articles. The more the better in terms of page views.
4. Start writing your own articles.
You can write about anything you want, but if you’re looking to have an audience as this blog does then it should be something on a subject that people would like to know more about.
5. Start marketing your blog.
Some people say blogging is easy and all you need to do is write articles, but this isn’t the case as there are many other things that go into making a successful blog. You should learn about SEO and online marketing techniques in order to get more visitors so that you can start making money from banner ads.
6. Make money from your blog by participating in an affiliate program (or become your own affiliate).
The easiest way to start making money is through an affiliate link, which works as a referral that gives you credit for sending their customers interested in the linked product/service. Another way to make money would be to run banner ads on your website or to have people buy products from your own website.
How do beginner bloggers make money?
I can’t believe we haven’t talked about this sooner! But I’m going to be totally transparent here. I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately and yesterday was left with the question: “how DO beginning bloggers make money?” It’s not enough just to start your blog, put up some posts, and hope for the best (as many of us have tried).
What do I mean by that?
Well, it’s easy to start a blog. It doesn’t cost you anything, all you need is an internet connection and some web hosting (if your blogging platform requires one). But there’s more to making money off of a blog than just starting one. You have to creatively find ways to monetize, engage your audience, and drive traffic.
It’s not an easy process but it is possible… if you follow the right steps.
So how do beginning bloggers make money? Here are some of my top tips for making that happen…
Monetize Your Blog The Right Way
I’m going to be completely transparent here. The easiest way for beginning bloggers to make money is to use ads or affiliate links.
These are basically the top 3 ways that you can make money with your blog. Some people choose not to go down this path but it’s a really good place to start if you’re not sure how to monetize a blog. Through ads and affiliate links, you’ll get your foot in the door and see that it’s possible to make money off of a blog. It will also take less time (and work) for you to set up these kinds of monetization strategies.
But here’s why I wouldn’t recommend either of these for beginning bloggers.
It’s very hard to know which ad network or affiliate program is the best or will be the most profitable for your blog. What I’ve found though, is that oftentimes, it doesn’t work. Even if you’re making money at first, you may get banned from a program (or have low payout) and it sucks when you’re left with no blog traffic or financial resources.
With that being said, here are some of my favorite ways to monetize a blog: Build an email list and sell your own products. I’ve found this to be the most rewarding way of making money from a blog.
You get to have a direct relationship with your customers and in my opinion, it’s the best way to build a lasting business. Sell advertising on your site (if you have a lot of traffic). This is not for everyone but if you can find brands that are interested in sponsoring your blog, it could be worth looking into. I’d recommend trying this after building up your audience for a while and proving that you can drive traffic to your posts.
Be creative and use these tips to find the right way for you to monetize a blog. It may not be through ads or affiliate links but I’m sure if you look hard enough, there’s something out there that will work for you! After all, everyone has their own style and passions, it’s just a matter of finding the right monetization strategy for your blog.
Give Your Readers Value: Give Away Free Stuff
If you want to drive traffic to your site, give away something free!
This is an age-old tactic for getting people to come to your site and I’ve seen it work over and over again.
Whenever I create a new site, I immediately go into giveaway mode. The more free stuff you offer, the better! You’ll see that people will share your content and like your page just so they can get their hands on it. It’s a good way to get early adopters who are interested in what you have to offer.
Give away like crazy and you will build up your audience.
Listen To Your Audience: Ask For Their Advice, Surveys, And More…
One of the best ways to get feedback from your readers is to ask for it!
It’s going to be scary at first but there’s no reason why you can’t do it. It will take time to build up your confidence but you’ll be surprised at how much people love offering their opinions.
Start with some basic questions like:
What do you know about this topic? What else would you like me to write about? How can I make this blog better? How did you find my blog? Do you like my writing style? What would you like to read more about?
These are just some of the questions you can ask your readers. I’ve done surveys in the past but used a tool called Survey Monkey instead (which is free). It’s easier than it sounds and people are kind of used to this type of feedback so don’t worry if you feel silly at first!
It’s important to remember that you’re building a relationship with your audience and the more they know about who you are, the better. So don’t be afraid to put yourself out there because it will only help your blogging in the long run (and make it easier for you to share what matters with them).
Become A Guest Blogger For Other Sites
One of the best ways to get your first few thousand readers is by guest blogging on other blogs. They’ll be promoting your content and sending traffic to your blog so even if you only write one post, it can boost your site to new success! Of course this won’t happen overnight but over time, it can be the best way to build up a following for your blog.
The first thing you’ll need to do is create some great content and then get in contact with other blogs that are interested in writing about similar topics. The easiest way I’ve found is through a service called HARO. It’s free and isn’t difficult to use. I’ve found my best success by using this tool on a daily basis.
What you’ll do is submit your content to HARO and then they will send you an email every day with requests for guest posts from other sites. If any of them sound like a good fit, respond immediately! If not, keep looking through the list until you find one that interests you.
This is a great way to get your foot in the door and results in new traffic to your blog every day.
If possible, try writing for free just so you can establish relationships with bloggers on other sites. Eventually, it will lead to more opportunities like paid guest posts or even a staff position if they take off.
Don’t expect the sky to be the limit but it will definitely lead to new success in your blogging efforts.
The idea of guest posting isn’t difficult at all. It just takes some time and a willingness to stick with it until you get results. But remember that the more you do it, the better!
If you follow the advice above, you should see some results pretty quickly. However, don’t be surprised if you have to deal with some bumps along the way. There’s no doubt that if you’re starting from scratch, it won’t be easy to build up an audience of thousands overnight. It will happen over time and usually when you least expect it!
So don’t allow your disappointment to turn into frustration. You have to stick with it in order to succeed and it’s amazing what you can accomplish with a little determination.
