So, now that we know that a good leader is one who can communicate and lead effectively, what is the most important quality for a leader? This again is largely related to emotional intelligence. In fact, this is probably the most important quality in leadership. Leaders need to be able to manage their emotions and keep calm under pressure. It is impossible to lead effectively if you are overwhelmed by fear or rage.
The fourth important quality of a good leader is dignity. A good leader does not elevate himself or herself to the status of a human being above other people. A good leader treats people with respect because they are humans too and not just followers. A leader who dignifies himself is seen as more credible than one who uses a “public” persona. When you are seen as someone who respects all people, then others will respect you as a leader as well.
The fifth quality that good leaders must possess is authenticity. Leaders who do not have authentic, personal credibility are not likely to be successful in leading. This is because authenticity means walking in the shoes of others and understanding what it is that makes people tick. If a leader cannot understand or relate to others on an honest level, he or she will fail at leading.
And finally, the sixth and seventh most important qualities in leadership qualities are authenticity and humility. A leader who lacks either of these will not likely last very long. While authenticity deals with having authentic feelings and being able to communicate those feelings to others, humility deals with not only knowing one’s own value but also being humble enough to let others know that they are respected. It does not matter whether a leader knows everything there is to know about a situation or not. If he or she lacks humility, it will show in the way that he or she leads.
